Telethon Huaraz 2014 – My smile within your hands –

P aulo Coelho once said that no man is an island. This is why a group of young professionals and artists (12 in total) have decided to organise a telethon. In order to minimise the economic burden on beneficiaries, ten local families have been carefully selected to receive support.

Often when I walk through the streets of Huaraz I see many people who depend on the help of their fellow citizens. It makes me feel bad. I am aware that feeling bad won’t solve these people’s problems. Our group of ambassadors has decided to help ten families whose disadvantages are limiting their quality of life. These families will remain anonymous with only their circumstances being shared with the public.

Hopefully, with your help, on the 14th of December these families will be presented with a gift that will make this an unforgettable Christmas.

Here a brief summary of the families we are supporting.

Family 1: The mother has a little boy with Down’s syndrome and to make the situation even more complicated, he also suffers from a heart murmur that prevents normal development.

Family 2: This family has a daughter who is suffering from microcephaly. Microcephaly is a neurodevelopmental disorder with those affected having a reduced life expectancy and poor brain function. The prognosis varies depending on the presence of associated abnormalities.

Families 3 – 10 have members with Schizophrenia, blindness, a mother who suffers from mental retardation, and many suffer from chronic malnutrition.

This is why I ask for your support on Sunday December the 14th from 15:00 to 20:00 at the Cultural Centre of Huaraz. If you can bring food or make a financial donation it will be much appreciated. No gift is too small.

The Telethon Huaraz 2014 ‘Mi Sonrisa En Tus Manos´ will also be broadcasted live on Channel 3, Cable Andino and will feature performances from Turmanyé, Dosis, clowns, Koki Chaparro and many more.
