¨No such thing as a 15 day ultimatum at Hatun Machay¨

I n contrast to what the President of the Agrarian Federation of the Department of Ancash Carlos Ayala Milla said on TV, and to what prensahuaraz.com, huarazenlinea.com and other local press like us reported, Argentinean Huaraz resident Andrés Saibene mentioned in a private message to The Huaraz Telegraph that there is no such thing as a 15 day ultimatum.

On his Facebook page he furthermore stated that on Saturday there was indeed a meeting in the shelter at the rock forest where the community wanted to renew the existing contract and that an agreement was not reached. Also; ¨And as we have stated on several occasions, we no longer want to charge the entrance fees to Hatun Machay, the community of Pampas Chico should take care of that job and let the money flow into its own economy.¨ In a contract signed on 12-06-2014, the community actually agreed to become in charge of collecting the entrance fee money however they never did. Also established in the contract, so is stated on the Facebook page of Hatun Machay, is a signed agreement by the community that allowed the Argentine to use the land to construct the shelter. ¨Meaning there is no legal way to retreat us from the land unless at least our investment and work is recognised. There was not any type of discussion between both parties at all, and the community came to the conclusion to renegotiate the deal, to which we will reply the first of August. Additionally, we filmed the whole assembly

Andrés Saibene is responsible for equipping over 400 routes at Hatun Machay and asks for a little more respect of local climbers who believe that the rock forest should be free. ¨It is very easy to complain and go somewhere to have it all served; routes, refuge, topos, gas, firewood and beds and to keep the place clean and to maintain climbing routes in conditions, it is not an easy task
