Important high mountain rescue course with exhibitors from Denver – Colorado at Casa de Guías

R afael Figueroa Chavez, president of the Asociación de Guías de Montaña del Perú informed The Huaraz Telegraph the programming of an important high mountain rescue course for guides with international speakers from Denver – Colorado´s University in the United States. The speakers are so called specialists of high altitude rescue operations.

The important high mountain rescue course counts with a Wilderness first aid (WFA) and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and all guides in the Ancash region are obligated to participate. Due to new established (international) rules and requirements set by El Servicio Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas por el Estado (SERNANP), guides working in the area will not be able to enter the National Park Huascarán without having participated in the course.

The course will be held from the 14th of April to the 18th and is a requirement to update and renew the guiding license. Apart from the local guides, fireman and policeman who often participate in rescue operations in this area have also received an invitation by the Asociación de Guías de Montaña del Perú. Rafael Figueroa Chavez added that the local police sometimes doesn’t want to participate in similar courses but stressed that it´s is highly important for police and fireman to update their knowledge on rescue techniques.

The Asociación de Guías de Montaña del Perú has furthermore planned to send two selected guides to Colombia for a special guiding course to be held next month on the 15th of February. Additionally, Rafael Figueroa Chavez president of the AGMP revealed to have signed a special pact with El Instituto Nacional de Investigación en Glaciares y Ecosistemas de Montaña (INAIGEM) in order to anticipate better on climate changes in the Huaraz area. Casa de Guías counts currently with 122 profesional guides.
