Road to Lima partially open again, new warning of heavy rains

Y esterday, at 10:30 a.m. the road towards Lima was opened again but in a restricted manner, allowing the passage of freight vehicles, vans, cars and passenger service buses until four in the afternoon. The mayor of the district of Colquioc – Casquitambo, Manuel Díaz Trujillo reported that the road has been enabled in one single lane only at the moment, to decongest the road because of the presence of hundreds of vehicles that are near Chasquitambo. Provías (Peruvian state entity that is responsible for the maintenance and construction of roads) is urging the different interprovincial passenger transport companies to take precautions and avoid leaving at night, because the road towards Lima will be only be open until four in the afternoon until further notice.

On the other hand, the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) issued a new warning on the possibility of heavy rains in the Ancash region for this weekend. The rain in the mountains will intensify between the early hours of Saturday and the night of Tuesday March 28th. These rains locally might cause thunderstorms and turn into hailstorms. In areas above 4,500 and 4,200 meters above sea level in the central and southern highlands, there may be snowfall too. The Senamhi warned that these weather phenomena will occur in the provinces of Casma, Aija, Antonio Raimondi, Asunción, Bolognesi, Carhuaz, Carlos Fermin Fitzcarrald, Corongo, Huaraz, Huari, Huaylas, Mariscal Luzuriaga, Ocros, Pallasca, Pomabamba, Recuay, Santa, Sihuas and Yungay.
