O ur newspaper was informed this morning that Linea, Oltursa, Cruz del Sur and Movil Tours are selling overnight bus trips again to Huaraz from Lima and vice versa. Due to heavy rain causing rock fall and mudslides, the access road between Huaraz and Lima had been interrupted a couple of times for the past month. For the past week, transportation from and to Huaraz was only possible during day time. A quick look on the websites of the aforementioned companies showed that they are selling overnight trips again.
The road towards Casma, however, still has a small interruption in the Yautan sector (Pampa Colorada) because of road works. The sale of overnight busses will hopefully lead to a, be it last minute, visit of national tourists during Easter. Earlier this month, many local tourism entrepreneurs in Huaraz expressed their worries that this year´s Semana Santa (Easter) might be disastrous. Representatives of local tourism agencies and some hoteliers have informed The Huaraz Telegraph that many reservations for Semana Santa had been canceled and that they expect only a small number of tourists in Huaraz.
An overnight bus trip from Peru´s capital normally takes a bit less than eight hours and tourists are expected to arrive around six o´clock in the morning in Huaraz. As we informed previously, the city of Huaraz has hardly suffered from the heavy rainfall, and the touristic attractions around it, are fine too.
