T he Decentralised Department of Culture of Ancash (DDC) has informed that the great National Museum of Chavin will reopen its doors after its remodeling. The museum is mainly dedicated to the Chavín culture and was officially inaugurated on July 18th in 2008. With a renewed museography, the National Museum of Chavin is pleased to announce that it will reopen its doors from Tuesday, April 11th to Sunday from 9.00 am till 5:00 p.m.
They also inform that, due to the disasters in Peru, there will not be a special reopening celebration. This celebration has been postponed to the International Museum Day, in the month of May. The museum is located about 30 minutes on foot from the archeological site of Chavin de Huantar in the same town. Entrance fee is seven soles for national adults and tourists. Students get 50% discount and children until 12 years of age pay only two soles. There is a 50% discount for adults over 60, in-service military personnel, teachers in general, and for persons with disabilities.
Additionally, from April 2nd, all state-owned museums in Peru can be visited for free by students, teacher or adults over 60 on every first Sunday of the month.
