Nine high mountain guides graduate after four years of hard study and practice

R afael Figueroa Chávez, president of the Casa de Guías of the Mountain Guides Association of Peru in Huaraz confirmed that there were initially 28 aspirant guides of which only nine completed their studies. The career of high mountain guide takes four years, including three years of theory and one year of intense practice on climbing techniques and rescue operations.

During these four years, the graduates participated in international expeditions in Chile and Bolivia to fine-tune rock and ice climbing techniques. Not all graduates are from Huaraz, there were participants from Huancayo, Cuzco and Arequipa as well. The president of the Casa de Guías said to be happy for the nine graduates despite having started with 28 aspirants only four years earlier. Due to very high international standards and demanding climbing techniques in practice, many had to back out. Guido Mollepaza Mollohuanca from Espinar in Cuzco is one of the graduates and confirmed that it were four long but satisfying years. ¨Myself and many of my colleagues thought initially that being a good climber of mountaineer would make us automatically a good mountain guide. One of the most important tasks during a climb is offering safety to clients. Safety is everything, minimizing risks and using experience so clients can enjoy a great experience in the mountains.¨

Rafael Figueroa additionally stated to be happy for Victor Rímac Trejo who earlier this week conquered the highest mountain in the world, becoming only the fourth Peruvian in doing so.
