The Huaraz Telegraph was launched on the 4th of April in 2012 but the ideas of enriching Huaraz with its first English language newspaper date back from October 2011 when the editor visited Iquitos with his family. The first editions were projected to have no more than 16 pages but as there was so much to write about, the very first edition counted 20 pages including a meeting with the Mayor of Huaraz who was extremely enthusiastic about the project.
Nowadays, The Huaraz Telegraph counts between 20 and 24 pages and this includes also tourist information. The Huaraz Telegraph is a tiny organization with no permanent employees but with the help of local people and foreigners we are able to offer our readers valuable touristic information and interesting articles. The Huaraz Telegraph is a free newspaper thanks to our sponsors and is available in Huaraz as in many parts of the Callejon de Huaylas and Conchucos.
Future extension towards the north of Peru is under consideration but because of a lack of time and money, not yet very realistic. Feel free to contact us if you would like to become part of the team!
