Getting Here

H uaraz is to be reached from either Lima or Trujillo by bus and from Lima also by plane. LC Peru offers a daily flight that will take around 40 minutes to arrive in Anta. This little place is located 35 minutes from Huaraz. From Casma tourists could catch A las Peruanas while from Chiquian, El Rapido is the more reasonable option. From Trujillo there are three options to choose from. The ride will be between seven and ten hours depending which bus company you decide to take. Linea, Movil Tours and Empresa Rapido all offer a direct bus from the coast to the Andes.

From Lima there are a dozen options to choose from. Some of the companies offer a morning shuttle but the majority offers an overnight bus. Expect to pay 25 soles for an economic morning bus and double the price for an overnight. In alphabetical order, the following busses are optional: Cavassa, Cruz del Sur, Empresa 14, Expreso Ancash, Julio Cesar, Linea, Movil Tours, Oltursa, Rodrigues, Z-Buss. Be very picky with your choice because not all mentioned above have the same reliable reputation.

Arriving in Huaraz, expect many touts hanging around the bus station. Be smart and book your hostel in advance. Most offer a free pick up service, even early in the mornings. Never buy any tours or treks in or around the bus terminals. We suggest taking some rest first, get informed about the area and then make some decisions.
